Cement Manufacturing Process

1. Limestone and small amount of sand and clay are mined from quarries usually very near the cement plant.

2. These materials are carefully analyzed, combined and blended for proper performance.

3. The materials are then heated in a large rotating kiln that reaches temperatures in excess of 2,600 degrees F, transforming the materials into a marble-to-baseball sized substance called clinker.

4. The clinker is then cooled and ground with a small amount of gypsum to produce a fine powder called portland cement.
